How Can Nutrition Scientists Help Reverse the Obesity Epidemic? Susan B. Roberts, PhD Professor, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy Professor, Psychiatry, Tufts University School of Medicine; Senior Scientist and Director, Energy Metabolism Laboratory, Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging Description: Obesity is the greatest threat to public health in our time, and has proved resistant to intensive research and public health initiatives aimed at helping individuals and communities manage their weight. This talk will examine theoretical principles and different approaches that can be brought to bear on the challenge of reversing rates of obesity in the U.S. and worldwide.   The W.O. Atwater Lectureship was established in 1968 to honor the memory of Wilbur Olin Atwater (1844-1907) and to recognize scientists who have made unique contributions toward improving the diet and nutrition of people around the world. Atwater, considered the father of modern nutrition research and education, was the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s first chief of nutrition investigations.
