Sugars and Health Controversies: What Does the Science Say?

Program Description

The health effects of added sugars continue to be very controversial and are likely to remain so in the foreseeable future.  This symposium will focus on several topics related to current or emerging controversies in this area.  Presentations will review whether or not added sugars lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases; if fructose containing sugars, when substituted for other carbohydrates, create adverse health consequences; and public policy issues with an emphasis on industry perspectives.
